Technical Basis

ZORA is operated with the open source software Eprints. Eprints was developed at the University of Southhampton and is constantly being developed further. Eprints can be used to set up a repository. The software is compatible with the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting OAI-PMH.

The Open Archives Initiative was created in the wake of a meeting in Santa Fe in October 1999 and is a central hub for technical and conceptual aspects of Open Access. Among other things, it is developing standards for interoperability that will enable scientific content to be disseminated efficiently.
